Queensland Athletics is sad to advise of the passing over night of Australian Record holder and 2010 Commonwealth Games Champion Jarrod Bannister.
Jarrod, a proud North Queenslander, was an outstanding talent in a number of sports in his youth. Ultimately, he was to dedicate is efforts to the Javelin where he competed at a World Class level for over ten years. Jarrod represented Australia at two Olympics, two World Championships and two Commonwealth Games. A six-time Australian Champion, he is the Oceania and Australian Record holder in the Javelin with a throw of 89.02m, a throw that ranked him second in the World that year.
Like many of the javelin greats, Jarrod was very much his own man, he enjoyed life to the full, yet was ultimately focused on perfecting the skill of channeling his immense natural power into throwing the spear an unfathomable distance.
Well-liked by both his fellow competitors and officials, he will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
